Many interior wood stains and deck stains are formulated with pigment or dye.

How to get stain paint off of panel walling.

If that does not work or work well enough try spraying directly on the stain and rubbing with the paper towel. Depending on the size of the area in question mix a lightly sudsy solution of between 1 quart and 1 gallon of water and a mild ph neutral dish liquid like dawn or ivory. Rub the stain with the damp cloth until you can t see the stain anymore. Use a dry rag or one of those magic sponges that can remove some stains and scuff marks without water or detergent.

If you prefer to remove the paint entirely as opposed to painting over it use a paint scraper to peel off the remaining unwanted paint. Sand the paneling with 120 grit sandpaper or a sanding sponge. Dip your microfiber cloth into the solution. Use your fingertip to help you clean a small area.

Sanding is the number one way to remove paint from wood paneling. You may want to start with a just a piece and work with that especially if you are new to sanding. Rub gently in a circular motion and see if the stain comes off. Brush or vacuum away the sanding dust.

If some stain is being removed keep turning the towel or rag to a clean area as you work. If there are several coats of paint you may want to use a stripper first. You can either work with a hand held sander or just a piece of sandpaper. If the ink or dye is fresh then you may be able to remove it using just a clean damp cloth.

Gel stain is thicker providing better control of the color. Try to avoid over wetting and allow the painted surface to dry thoroughly. Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid and warm water in a medium sized bowl. Wipe the stain with a clean damp cloth.

Try to wipe the dye or ink away in one motion and then go back over the spot with a clean section of the cloth. If you have a lot of paneling to sand a drywall sander on an extension pole will make the job go faster. Wring out the cloth so that it s not overly saturated. Step 2 spray the stain lightly with a mild cleanser.

Wet a cloth with this mixture and wipe the stained area then rinse with clean water and blot with a dry towel until it dries. Use a sponge to clean the area. For relatively small stains add teaspoon of soap in a cup of warm water and mix thoroughly. First put a bit of the cleanser on a paper towel or clean rag and try rubbing the spot.

Wash with clean water and dry with a soft cloth to finish the process. As the name suggests stain can leave permanent discolorations on whatever it touches. Strip the paint if you want to remove it entirely.
