Install A Range Hood Roof Vent

We have a gas range built into a center island with a downdraft vent that doesn t vent well.

Install a range hood roof vent.

Install the proper sized ductwork and exterior roof or wall cap depending on where you will be venting your hood to the exterior. Nail the lower corners with roofing nails and tar the heads. The ductwork should already be punched through the ceiling and above cabinet or back wall and ready to hook up to the range hood before beginning installation. If the hole saw can t cut through the interior wall in one pass stop cutting remove the plaster from the hole and continue drilling.

Step 2 before you begin cutting a large hole into the wall to install the vent first cut a smaller hole to see what s behind the wall. Depending on the location of your range you will need to decide if it is easier to vent through an outside wall versus up through the roof. The lower half of the flange sits on top of the shingles.
