Installing Trim Before Roofing

10 panel wood screw space according to the recommended fastening pattern and local codes. Overlap each metal piece by at least 150 mm 6 and use asphalt plastic cement under each section of overlap. For the best results purchase pre primed boards whenever possible. It can be a simple board or it may include a frieze board soffit and fascia.

Roof trim is a general term for many parts of the roof that must be installed when shingling a roof. Most roof trim is installed before shingling but not all of it. The rake board serves as the starting place for the shingles. Center a minimum 610 mm 24 wide minimum 28 gauge pre finished galvanized metal valley liner in the valley and fasten with only enough nails to hold it in place nailing at the edges only.

Numbers give suggested sequence for trim installation steps. Align the first metal roofing panel so that it overlaps the edging by 1 2 to 3 4 of an inch and is square to the roof. Rake board trim is an overhang from a pitched roof. Place the first screw.

Install the roofing screws vertically along each rib in the panel. 9 roofing panel install with lower edge 1 above the transition bend. Here is a short video showing how. This is the metal trim similar to the eave flashing except that it is placed over joints in the roof where different sections meet.

Be sure to cut this metal at the correct angle before installing it. Be sure the larger edge is laid so that the small edge of the next panel will overlap it. Painting before installing trim can be a major energy and time saver provided you have the space to do it.
